Escape from Zagarth was a quick weekend project, and like a lot of our favorite ideas it started on a piece of paper.
The original board, drawn by hand. Almost everything you see here made it into the game.
We have been making board games like this for years. Little games drawn on paper, built in a single afternoon, with rules we make up as we go. Most of them never leave the kitchen table, and honestly that is part of the fun. They were never meant to be anything more than a way to spend time together.
This one stuck with us a bit more than the others. We kept wanting to play it again, and at some point we started wondering what it would be like as a real game. So we decided to find out.
In Escape from Zagarth, two players race across four biomes and run into five bosses along the way. Roll the die to move forward or get knocked back, and fight for the numbers you need to survive.
Only the luckiest will escape.
