Pizza for Dinner, Puyo Puyo for Dessert

Pizza is a classic in our house. Dad loves making it at home, every kind he can think of. And did you know Buenos Aires is one of the great pizza cities of the world? There is a pizzeria on almost every corner. That is how our pizza tour started: we try as many as we can, and pick a new favorite every time.

Puyo Puyo is the other classic that we love. Mom has always been the queen. But these days our oldest gives her a real fight, so every rematch counts.

We wanted to make a game that mixed the two, a little homage to Puyo Puyo with our own twist: what if the puyos were pizza?

How it plays

Instead of colored blobs, it rains dough, cheese, tomato, onion, basil and ham. Match four of a kind and they pop.

A run in the kitchen: the board stacked with tomatoes, onions, ham, cheese and dough, a caprese empanada and a fugazzeta on the orders, half their ingredients crossed off One tomato away from a caprese empanada.

Every pop goes toward one of the two orders on the left. Finish an order and the dish goes out.

The menu is all from Argentina: mozzarella, napolitana, fugazzeta, caprese and ham. Plus a few empanadas, which sneaked into the kitchen because every pizzeria here sells them too.

You get five minutes. Every dish gives you a few seconds back, and a bigger dish gives you more. When the clock runs out, or the pieces reach the top, the pizzeria closes for the night.

Two tips

  • Keep what you do not need yet. A tomato with nowhere to go will find an order sooner or later.
  • Cook in chains. A pop that drops pieces into another group scores double, then triple.

Order up!

We had a lot of fun putting this little pizzeria together. We hope you have just as much fun playing it. Just don't play it hungry!
